Supporting the Students of Massachusetts
Stating the obvious, K–12 educational assessment is a complicated business. It’s not just because education standards and federal assessment requirements change. Throw in politics, state legislation, and the extremely public debates about testing, and it’s remarkable that progress is made at all.
So when all these factors come together in a solution that puts teaching and learning at the heart of an assessment program, it’s worth taking notice.
Massachusetts went through a long and thoughtful process to design its next statewide assessment program. Its vision of the next generation Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) retains continuity with the assessment from the Partnership for Assessment of College and Career Readiness (PARCC®)* and with the state’s highly praised ongoing MCAS program. The design is rooted in the linked goals of using assessment to improve all students’ academic performance, and to develop innovative assessment models. We wholeheartedly share the Commonwealth’s commitment to those goals.
New Contract Continues a Flourishing Partnership
Measured Progress and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education have worked together since 1996. Our history of shared goals and solutions for Massachusetts education has created a relationship of trust and genuine collaboration. We’re excited to continue and deepen that relationship as we move forward under the new contract awarded to us by the state. Pearson will join the partnership as our online test platform provider. The combined strength and experience of our two companies bring the best of several worlds together to help accomplish the Commonwealth’s goals—doing the right thing in support of the students of Massachusetts.
